SPOTIFY’S MARROW IS BAD TO THE BONE

Spotify is throwing goat.

New rock playlist MARROW is the result of what the DSP’s reps say is a 600% surge in searches for terms like “rock music,” “alt/rock” and “rock band,” as well as a spike in queries about alternative metal, post-grunge and indie rock.

Rock acts are seeing a bump in streams and searches too. Just ask established bands like Deftones and Arctic Monkeys or up-and-comers such as Jack Kays and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers.

“While Rock This was a destination for rock hits on Spotify for many years, we wanted to recognize that rock has evolved,” says Spotify Senior Editor, Rock/Alternative Laura Ohls. “MARROW doesn’t focus on the biggest artists and songs in the genre, but rather on the established or developing artists connecting to youth culture.”

The playlist currently boasts the newly-released Destroy Boys single, “Plucked,” plus tracks from Bring Me the Horizon, Djo, The Last Dinner Party, Måneskin, IDLES, Bleachers, St. Vincent, Kings of Leon, Cage the Elephant, Olivia Rodrigo, Fall Out Boy, Lovejoy, boygenius, Pierce the Veil and d4vd, among others.

In support of MARROW’s launch, Spotify debuted a true-crime-inspired video featuring Destroy Boys’ Kenny Hoopla and The Beaches as they investigate “Who Killed Rock?” Peep the vid below.

In other rock news, we spilled bongwater on the carpet again.
