Thirteen artists have been named the first recipients of the BPI's new BRIT billion award for reaching 1 billion U.K. streams, among them ABBA, Coldplay and Ellie Goulding.
The other artists to be so honored are AJ Tracey, Anne-Marie, George Ezra, Headie One, Lewis Capaldi, Mariah Carey, RAYE, Rita Ora, Sam Smith and the late Whitney Houston.
The BPI administers the BRIT certified platinum, gold and silver awards for U.K. releases. The BRIT billion award represents the first time in the program's five-decade history that it will recognize an artist’s combined success on multiple projects.
The 1 billion career total includes tracks an artist has appeared on as either the principal performer or featured artist, as credited by the Official Charts.
