BBC SOUND OF 2022: THE LONGLIST
12/6/21

The longlist for BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2022 has been revealed, with 10 new acts including Lola Young, Central Cee and PinkPantheress being tipped for success.

Universal U.K. counts three acts on the list: Island-signed talents Young and rock group Yard Act plus Polydor singer and songwriter Baby Queen.

Sony has singer and songwriters Mimi Webb (Epic) and Tems (Since ’93/RCA). Warner also counts two with PinkPantheress (Parlophone) and Priya Ragu (Warner Records U.K.).

There are three independent acts on the longlist: rapper Central Cee (who self-releases via ADA), rapper/singer/songwriter ENNY (FAMM) and indie band Wet Leg (Domino).

The Top 5 countdown will start on BBC Radio 1 on 1/2 with the winner revealed on 1/6. Chris Price, Head of Music for Radio 1, praised the list for being a “diverse representation of genres” and representative of “a great year for British and female artists.”

The longlist was chosen by a panel of more than 130 industry experts and artists, including Elton John, Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran, Jade Thirlwall and Jorja Smith. Last year's winner was Warner act Pa Salieu.
