Utopia Music has grown yet again, acquiring U.K. physical supply chain Cinram Novum, saving it from insolvency.
Utopia’s distribution services arm has been bolstered by the business and certain assets of Cinram Novum—an independent provider of warehouse, fulfilment, distribution and business support. The buyout saves the 40-year-old Cinram Novum from folding, securing 300 jobs.
Cinram will continue serving labels including Universal and Sony, alongside retailers and artists.
“The loss of Cinram Novum would have been detrimental to the entire U.K. music industry, resulting in financial losses and disruption for labels, retailers, artists and their fans,” Utopia Music COO Roberto Neri. “Through this acquisition, our intention is that Utopia can secure Cinram’s future.”
Utopia’s distribution services business started this year with the acquisitions of Proper Music Group and Absolute Label Services. Utopia also acquired Sentric Music, Musimap, Lyric Financial and ROSTR.
