I remember getting goose bumps the first time I heard Audra Mae’s voice

Photo: Mitch Livingston

blaring through my car speakers just over a year ago. By the time she hit the first chorus, I had already pulled over to Google the lyrics—this was before I had Shazam—and find about the siren behind the chill-inducing voice.

You may not be familiar with her name yet, but chances are you've heard her music. Notably, her vocals are featured on Avicii’s smash, “Addicted to You,” and they're sprinkled throughout the Sons Of Anarchy soundtracks. As a songwriter signed to Warner Chappell working closely with A&R VEEP, Katie Vinten, Audra has collaborated with a wide-ranging selection of artists, co-penning a collection of hits, including Miranda Lambert’s “Little Red Wagon,” Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat Song" and many more.

With a tiny guitar in hand, she stepped on stage at the Fonda Theatre last night sporting a babydoll dress and giving off the impression that she was about to break out in some cutesy gluten-free ditties. But behind those sky-blue eyes lay a force of nature. The crowd went wild as she mesmerized with Joplin-esque vocals and inspiring lyrics.

Mae leaves you with no other choice than to take notice, as this beast refuses to be tamed. Word on the street hints she has an original album coming out soon, so stay tuned.

Until then, you can find me cruising the mean streets of Beverlywood in my hot whip (aka my Prius), blasting my current favorite, Avicii f/Audra Mae's “Feeling Good” (embedded below).

L'chaim,
Naomi Robin
